FAMILY & TRADITION
Our small family winery is located in the heart of the Rheingau, in the picturesque village of Hallgarten. The winery has been in family hands since 1700 and producing wines of the highest quality with passion and heart.
We are a family business and cultivate about eight hectares of vineyards. We, Michael and Gerd Kempnich, grew up with viticulture, so it was not surprising that we followed our fathers' footsteps and continue to indulge in the passion for viticulture.
Family business means that everyone, including parents, children and spouses, “have to” help if necessary and are involved in the day-to-day work of the winery.
THE WINERY OWNER
MICHAEL KEMPNICH
Winemaker
The course in the direction of viticulture was set early for Michael. At the age of 14 he started his apprenticeship as a winegrower. He graduated as a winemaker in 1978 and has over 40 years of experience as a winemaker. His passion today lies in the work in the cellar, where he gives our wines the finishing touch. In addition, he is always available for the customers in the winery to give them the best possible consulting on our wines and thus help you find your favorite wine for every occasion.
GERD KEMPNICH
Viticultural engineer
After graduating from high school, Gerd studied viticulture at the Hochschule Geisenheim University and successfully completed it as a viticultural engineer. He brings an extensive knowledge for the expansion of our wines. He lays the foundation for the excellent quality of our wines through cultivation and work in the vineyard. His task is to give the grapes the perfect opportunity to develop their taste by taking care of the vines.
VINEYARD SITE
Our vineyards reflect everything that the Rheingau has to offer in the diversity of its soils. From slate and quartzite to sandy and gravelly soils, everything is represented in the vineyards around Hallgarten. In addition, the elevated hillside position ensures year-round sunshine, which together with the most diverse types of soil gives our wine its unique taste and elegance.
